ISPE-Fest 2006 featured guest speaker Kirsten Engel, a UA professor at the College of Law, who discussed the first climate change case to come before the U.S. Supreme Court—a case that turned on whether the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is required to regulate vehicle emissions of carbon dioxide, one of the gases contributing to global warming. In April 2007, several months after her remarks, the high court ruled that the federal government has the power to regulate these emissions. Four ISPE faculty members, including Professor Engel, were involved in that case.

Before Professor Engel's remarks, attendees received compact fluorescent light bulbs, which use at least two-thirds less energy than standard bulbs and last at least six times longer. Following tradition, the event ended on a pecuniary note, with money awarded to the six winners of the Graduate Student Poster Competition.
