With wonderful speakers, a delicious and varied buffet, and two dozen student posters, the 5th annual ISPE-Fest was another great success. Getting things rolling, a number of distinguished researchers and officials at the university recognized UA faculty involved in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), one of the winners of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize. That list of past and present faculty includes, but is not necessarily limited to, Jonathan Overpeck, Julia Cole, Kathy Jacobs, Robert Varady, Malcolm Hughes, Robert Dickinson, and Roger Bales.

ISPE-Fest 2007 featured guest speaker Travis Huxman, UA associate professor of ecology and evolutionary biology and director of Biosphere 2 and the B2 Earthscience program. In his presentation, he discussed Biosphere 2, a scaling tool for research, outreach, and education in the earth and environmental sciences that the UA leases in Oracle, Arizona.

The event culminated with the announcement of the six winners of the Graduate Student Poster Competition and the ten winners of the raffle prize: a free family tour of Biosphere 2.
