Earth Fellowship

The Institute for the Study of Planet Earth (ISPE), in support of the Global Change PhD minor, offers a program to increase enrollment of graduate students and support ISPE's affiliated graduate programs. PhD programs may submit an application for consideration for an Earth Fellowship for one graduate student. The student must be a new, incoming student to the University of Arizona and the program. Applications will only be accepted for one student per graduate program per academic year. If selected, the student will receive an Earth Fellowship of up to $5,000 during academic year 2008-2009.

Qualifications

Competition is open to graduate students working with an ISPE-affiliated faculty member and who will select Global Change as a minor. The student must complete all necessary paperwork with the Graduate College.

Application Procedure

On or before February 21, 2008, the department or graduate program should submit three copies of:

  1. A prospective student's statement of interest and research goals,
  2. A supporting letter from a University of Arizona faculty mentor,
  3. A supporting letter from the department chair or graduate program chair indicating that the student surpasses his or her peers in the unit,
  4. Three complete copies of the student's graduate program application packet.

Selection

A panel appointed by the Global Change advisor chair from the GC Executive Committee will evaluate applications. Up to six students will be awarded an Earth Fellowship of up to $5,000 in academic year 2008-2009. Winners will be announced on March 7, 2008.
