The Udall Center for Studies in Public Policy at The University of Arizona offers the Udall Center Fellows Program for faculty members and researchers to engage in research on any topic related to public policy. Fellows will be affiliated with the Udall Center and with the Institute for the Study of Planet Earth. Since the program's inception in 1990, the Udall Center has hosted 102 Fellows representing 34 departments or centers at the UA. ISPE has supported 17 of those Fellows from 11 units in five colleges.
For each academic year, ISPE has agreed to fund up to two one-semester fellowships to support research or curriculum development in the public-policy aspects of global environmental change. Applicants for the Udall Center-ISPE science and policy fellowships are encouraged, but not limited, to consider projects related to the human dimensions of environmental variability and change, or the use and value of environmental knowledge and information in policy and decision making. Work leading to the development of an interdisciplinary research proposal or a new course offering in these areas is especially encouraged.
The science and policy component of the competition will be open to faculty members in the physical, biological, and social sciences who wish to broaden their understanding of the public-policy dimensions of global change.
Fellows will use the ISPE funds to secure release-time from departmental obligations to devote the majority of their time to fellowship activities for one semester. Thus, an application must be approved prior to submission by the applicant's department head or director and the dean.
Each applicant should submit:
Applicants need to specify the semester for which they are applying (Fall, Spring, or no preference). For more information, contact the Udall Center at 626-4393, or visit http://udallcenter.arizona.edu/staff/fellows/.
Applications will be reviewed by a panel drawn from the Udall Center's faculty advisory committee and former Fellows.
